Family Fun Celebration

Family Fun Celebration

Mad Hatters descended on Matlock park for a tea party celebration on Saturday. The cafe in Hall Leys Park marked a decade in business by joining forces with arts organisation Matlock Live to host an Alice In Wonderland-themed day of family fun.

Kate Lane, who owns the cafe, said she wanted to give something back to her loyal customers and offered free tea and coffee all day.

Activities on offer included a Mad Hatters Tea Party, a fancy dress parade, face painting, children’s storytelling, live performances, fair ground rides, a bouncy slide, barbecue and a giant Scalextric. Youngsters also had the chance to try our craft activities, make creative hats and decorate biscuits. The event closed with a performance from Matlock Brass Band.

Mum-of-two Kate said: “The park was packed, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it so busy, apart from the Victorian Weekend. We had beautiful weather – it couldn’t have been more perfect. A lot of people said it was a proper family day which is what I was hoping to put on. It was absolutely brilliant.”

Kate took over the cafe, which sells a range of homemade cakes, pizza, paninis, ice cream, drinks and snacks 10 years ago.
